Going ‘Down Under’ has never been as easy as with a new experience launched by Uber and Queensland, Australia. In a world’s first, the popular rideshare service is offering a limited number of submarine tours around the most iconic natural world heritage site south of the equator – the Great Barrier Reef.
Underwater enthusiasts can request a ‘scUber’ off the coast of Gladstone through the Uber app from 27 May, before the experience moves to the Agincourt Reef in Cairns on 9 June. Fancy yourself an extra dose of Australian adventure? The Gladstone-based dive includes a helicopter ride to secluded Heron Island, adding an experiential touch very much to our liking.
At an hourly rate of $3000 AUD for two passengers, a scUber isn’t quite as budget-friendly as its four-wheeled counterpart, though you’ll be glad to hear the project supports ongoing conservation efforts led by Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef. And anyway, the return Uber to and from your pick-up location is complimentary.
