The jaw-droppingly beautiful Surin Beach, home to the glorious Twinpalms, used to be a must-go hangout for the chic jet-set. Last year, the vibe changed, when the local government mowed down everything on the beach to return it to the unspoilt paradise they felt it should be. Undeterred, Phuket’s Surin-loving luxury travellers retreated to the Twinpalms, a tranquil, escapist and contemporary resort with a world-famous pool. In one move, they created an experience that is the best of both worlds – seemingly untouched Thailand and hip, unadulterated luxury.
The resort features blissfully sleek and minimalist rooms, mostly surrounding its aquatic focal-point.Ours, the so-called one-bedroomed penthouse suite had its own private rooftop pool and was easily the largest, if not the most luxurious and palatial suite we have ever experienced in Thailand. The name sells it short (or small), because it is actually set across three enormous floors and 410 square metres (that’s over 4,000 square feet) of living space. It is the ultimate party-pad for two and is so huge, that when our personal butler rang the doorbell, it literally took us five minutes to come down to open it.
Just a quick shuttle-ride up the coast, the Twinpalms has its own beach-club, Catch – which is renowned for its belly-busting seafood buffet dinners and stylish events, a little touch of Miami on Bang Tao beach. For OutThere travellers, the Twinpalm’s location is perfect for access to the madness that is Patong, close enough to grab a taxi home after a night out, but far away enough to feel like you’re truly getting away from it all.
