There’s a little bit of a roaring twenties revival happening in luxury hotels across the world at present, but who can blame them; particularly for London, this time of luxurious, “Gatsby-esque” decadence was a period of growth and post-war celebration – it ended in victory, and with it peace had returned, not to mention prosperity. Many great London hospitality landmarks emerged, it was the era of “Bright Young Things” – and for those from the aristocracy and wealthier classes, life had never been better.
The Waldorf Hilton, known as one of London’s most famous hotels this week unveils its newly-refurbished, signature Astor Suite, capturing this spirit of the 20’s, completely transformed as part of a £13.5 million hotel-wide renovation. Of course complete with modern twists, the suite is named after the hotel’s benefactor, Lord William Astor and promises a truly unique stay with an array of vintage-inspired mod-cons. In true 1920s style, the Suite features a gramophone, vintage tea set and period-style telephone, but look closer and you’ll notice everything is set-up for the modern luxury traveller.
But for us, the Hilton brand hotel’s most notable new feature is the Suite’s ‘Press For Champagne’ button which allows guests the pleasure to request bubbly by the bottle or glass direct to the suite. The Suite boasts two of these buttons: one in the bedroom and another in the living room area, bringing that whole ‘Upstairs, Downstairs’ theme to life in living colour.
