We found this palace of Chinese hospitality, towering above the Nanjing Road, where old-world Shanghai collides right into its 21st century identity as a luxury shopping mecca. Based in the Shanghai Centre, a renowned entertainment hub, its 610 opulent rooms and suites nod to Shanghai’s past, in a signature East meets West style, with lashings of Ritz Carlton signature trimmings. Access to the Club Lounge is a lovely perk, with private check-in and complimentary food and drink pretty much throughout the day. It’s a fabulous base to explore Shanghai, just a short taxi ride to the delights of the Bund, and a walk to the charming French Concession, as well as all the other tourist and fashionista sights along the way, not to mention food galore. But what makes the Ritz Carlton Shanghai Portman extra special is its team. Attentive, charming and everhelpful, the staff made us feel more than welcome throughout our stay. From the moment we arrived, Head Bellman George ensured us weary travellers were looked after, adding that personal touch that makes all the difference – and the rest of the team followed up perfectly.
At OutThere, we believe in boundless travel. But we understand that some destinations can pose challenges to travellers that complicate visiting them. We advise all visitors to inform themselves about local legislation and customs, and to work with a trusted travel provider in order to ensure a safe and pleasant holiday.
