Ever feel like booking yourself into the largest hotel suite in the United States? Well, there’s no better time for a special treat than Christmas, and as NYC’s The Mark hotel is pulling all the festive strings with their Penthouse Holiday Spectacular, you’d be hard-pressed to find a bigger treat this season. And we mean that quite literally – the two-storey Penthouse has a whopping floor area of 12,000 sq ft, which is astounding even by Big Apple standards.
Though it’s on the private terrace that the Penthouse Holiday Spectacular finds what is perhaps its most ambitious expression of all that makes the season special: a private ice skating rink with sweeping views of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline – sightings of shoppers on the hunt for last-minute presents on 5th Ave are guaranteed, although those looking for ultimate privacy need not worry, as no one will be able to peek back. The chicest and most deluxe rink on the East Coast, there’ll be no pushing and shoving; and to our personal delight, there’ll be no anonymous giggles when you get lost in the glittering lights of the Big Apple and end up landing on your behind, either (really, you could be forgiven).
Guests looking for a different kind of Christmassy entertainment might be tempted by a four-course holiday feast by The Mark Restaurant’s very own Michelin-Star Chef Jean Georges Vongerichten, a private serenade by a Juilliard-trained pianist in the setting of one’s own Penthouse or an exclusive after-hours shopping spree around (where else?) Bergdorf’s. Prefer being given presents to buying your own? Just cuddle up and wait for Santa to slide down the chimney instead – the Penthouse features a total of four fireplaces to choose from. Happy Christmas, indeed.
