Known as one of Edinburgh’s palatial landmarks, the Balmoral’s reputation precedes itself. But if you’re expecting starchy service and grande dame hospitality then you’ll be surprised that this Rocco Forte flagship actually delivers more contemporary luxury than the building it occupies might suggest. We enjoyed a lavish suite, top-notch spa treatments and dinner at its aptly named Number One, Michelin-starred restaurant.
