If ever you needed to be reassured about Bangkok’s gay-friendly credentials, you need look no further than the check-in lounge at Sofitel’s So Bangkok. Paul Boonrungreung, the charismatic; and by his own admission ‘OUT THERE’ concierge or ‘So Guru’, will greet you with his Swarovski decorated nails pressed together in a wai and smile in his Christian Lacroix uniform.
Lacroix’s signature style is literally written on the walls of the ‘Signature Lounge’ on the 29th floor. He signed it at the opening of the hotel when his designs were unveiled to much media attention.
However, the majority of the hotel’s aesthetics were crafted by four major players in Thailand’s emerging design community, each bringing their own interpretation of the property’s elemental theme. As visually impressive as is it sensorial, we loved the spacious high ceilings and views of the metropolis.
The glamor extends all the way to the rooftop restaurant and bar – a current favorite amongst Bangkok’s movers and shakers, so you’ll likely find yourself sat on the chef’s table dining next to local celebs or high flyers from the city’s burgeoning business world.
