Arguably South Beach’s best kept secret. Among what has become known as the ‘chic-strip’ of Miami hotels, is the Sagamore. It’s not a name-dropper’s property, but that’s only to its credit, as it’s still right in the thick of it all, on the sand and just a short stroll from Collins, Lincoln and Ocean Drives. This alluring property is where old Miami meets new, in chic and understated fashion. Its owners claim the title of ‘Art Hotel’ for good reason – contemporary work can be found all over the property’s pristine white floors and walls. A highlight was photographer Spencer Tunick’s series around the pool deck. Some things were a touch too old-world for today’s jet-set – check-in was slow, as were the elevators, and the service wasn’t always as on-beat as its slick neighbours, but these were the only faults we could find. On the plus side, the property is all-suite, 93 hugely generous spaces that include some two-storey pool bungalows and super-luxurious penthouses. And, for the ultimate South Beach experience, enjoy the Sagamore’s signature rooftop penthouse. It offers a sublime three-bed, 1,800 square foot party central.
