Jaw-droppingly stunning, this reimagined heritage, Art Nouveau shopping arcade is now the Párisi Udvar Hotel. Located in an enviable location in the city’s upscale commercial district, it had just opened at the time of our visit and set a new tone for luxury hospitality in Budapest.
The designers have preened, polished and modernised most aspects of the building, but really let the original architecture of this gorgeous Parisian-style Art Nouveau galleria do all the talking. The Párisi Udvar Hotel is a real gem and almost overwhelming on the eyes, but after some adjusting, it was love at first sight. Every turn, each stairwell and nook revealed something breathtaking. The property has to be seen to be believed.
The rooms were the antithesis of the hotel’s communal areas, with very neutral tones – white and cream for the most part, teamed with earthy-coloured furnishings accented in gold – and ultra-modern technology. The portfolio of suites is somewhat quirky, with accommodations varying in size, shape and layout according to the original design of the building.
Despite all the finery and gilt, staying here at the Párisi Udvar Hotel was the ultimate in comfort and the generous facilities include a modern gym, a sublime private spa and a cocktail bar that quickly became the envy of all our vintage-chic-loving Instagram followers.

Head for the Jégbüfé ice-cream parlour, a Hungarian institution across the street. It was once a tenant – in fact, the very last one – of the hotel building and was moved to where it is now to make way for the renovations. |
