New Yorkers will tell you that it has been a while since there has been a Park Avenue opening, so the soft launch of the Marmara was more than well received. This is the famed Turkish luxury group’s second property in NYC – their new flagship – offering something truly special to East Midtown. The discreet entrance on 32nd Street offers a VIP experience, you’ll feel like a celebrity or dignitary slipping into the city unannounced.
On arrival, you’re welcomed by its gorgeous, aviary-like steel and glass entryway flowing into a white marble lobby, and arty, old-meets-futuristic check-in area. This is Turkish grandeur fused with New York chic in every way – understated and functional opulence, just like Grand Central station, a short walk away.
Each of the hotel’s 128 rooms tells a different story, some complete with kitchen. Ours had a gorgeous terrace overlooking 32nd Street with views of the Empire State and Chrysler buildings. For that real New York touch, Joe Ginsberg’s artwork features in-room, but as reminder of the hotel group’s roots, a stunning hammam awaits you in the basement, the hotel’s trump card. It’s either that, or the truly impeccable staff – tough call.
