Our time spent in beautiful Bariloche was amplified by a stay at what is billed as one of Argentina’s best luxury hotels – the Llao Llao Hotel & Resort. uttering its name among the chattering classes of Buenos Aires will make even the most seasoned staycationer gush. We have a little bit of an inside tip if you’re asking for directions or getting a taxi to the property, though. In Argentina the double “L” in Llao Llao is said with a “Ch” sound as in ‘cheese’, as opposed to the conventional “Y” sound. So here you’re looking for the “Chao Chao”, not the “Yao Yao”, to save much confusion.
The property does live up to its hype, elevated as if solely to provide the most epic views of the rolling, green hills and the gorgeous lake that surrounds it. The five-star property offers a choice of lovely suites. We opted for pure elegance in the classic part of the property, just to get into the vibe of Bariloche, but those who like more contemporary digs will feel right at home in the hotel’s new Moreno Wing, with its own private reception. Our suite (and bathroom) looked out dramatically onto the water, providing a real sense of place and allowing us to drink in its majesty.
