The Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets offers a more relaxed and fun-driven approach to upscale hospitality in the South Australian State capital of Adelaide. Though it’s technically speaking not as luxurious as some of its competition around town, this stylish outpost of the forever-young and fabulously friendly brand makes for a solid place to stay for a few nights.
In keeping with this new international urban chain, the hotel is as lively as it is contemporary, mixing fashionable, accessible design with casual, friendly service, clearly aimed at a young crowd. Design plays a big part in the hotel’s identity. The foyer red-brick looked like a cross between a Saturday morning TV show and an Almodóvar movie set, pairing a curvaceous, art deco-ish baby pink sofa with 80s lipstick-red tube-framed chairs and a swooping staircase. It’s obvious this place doesn’t take itself too seriously – and why should it? Urban hotels are, after all, for fun.
Our room was compact but had everything we needed. Hotel highlights included an Italian restaurant, the small but refreshing outdoor pool and the Merrymaker Rooftop Bar (booking advisable). The views from here are best at sunset, although what really made the bar special is just how lively it gets in the evenings.

While you’re Out There |
Around the corner from the Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets, you’ll find the local feature that gives the hotel its name: the city’s buzzing Central Market. It goes without saying that stopping here is a must – the market is a real treasure trove of all things edible – and since you’ll hardly manage to leave without grabbing a bite to eat, it’s surrounded by some of Adelaide’s most diverse restaurants: from Japanese sushi to Mexican chilis, it’s all in one place. |
