In the pulsing heart of Athens, just a short walk from Omonia Square and the Central Market, we found this avantgarde, arty, five-star boutique. The hotel opened back in January 2014 and is part of the global Small Luxury Hotels of the World family. With 63 spacious rooms, each unique, the property prides itself on its eclectic art collection, from industrial signage to stuffed animals – and the graffiti that marks the urban outdoors flows into carefully curated street-art and murals indoors.
The interior design and concept of the hotel seek to create a new brand of luxury for the city – although we find that the art seems a little forced. However, we can’t deny marvelling at the collection, not to mention hand-picked designer furniture pieces throughout the entire hotel. The hotel’s suites boast spacious balconies and great urban views – but the hotel does lack a roof terrace that has become an Athenian signature. The team headed up by Mary, the enigmatic hotel general manager is attentive, friendly, welcoming and unpretentious. The dining-room on the first floor serves great Greco-Italian fusion cuisine.
