First opened in 1915, this centenarian château on the river oozes old-school charm and has amazing vistas of what we believe makes Edmontonians tick – the North Saskatchewan River Valley. Our newly renovated eighth-floor Fairmont Gold suite provided all the luxuries we OutThere travellers have come to expect from a hotel of this pedigree, not to mention awe-inspiring views. After a day exploring the city, we supped yummy cocktails at the hotel’s Confederation Lounge, a rising star in the city’s bar scene. There, we were checked out by the hotel’s most lauded member of staff, Smudge, the gorgeous Labrador mascot for the property’s partnership with Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind. As befitted her role as Canine Ambassador, Smudge happily took us on a walk down the river valley – authentic experiential travel at its best and certainly its cuddliest.
