The architects of Avani+ Mai Khao Phuket Suites certainly didn’t skimp on space when it came to designing our expansive two-bedroom pool villa. It felt easily large enough to accommodate two couples with an open plan living area which included a fully fitted kitchen, a dining table, and a large lounge area. Adjoining this were two generously proportioned double ensuite bedrooms as well as the master bedroom with floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors which led out onto our own pool set within a secluded garden. And let’s face it, who doesn’t love waking up to the sight of their private pool?
The entire property is designed to feel uncluttered, mixing clean, contemporary international stylings with unmistakably Thai aesthetics. We particularly liked the use of traditional red brick walls which divide the space and, combined with manicured lawns and careful tropical planting, helps to create a sense of calm privacy befitting this low-key resort.
Although not directly on the beach it is only a short 300m walk through Avani+ Mai Khao’s stunning sister hotel, Anantara, to the pristine shores of Mai Khao Beach. Incidentally, guests are encouraged to dine on either property which substantially increases their options. Although we found the food to be excellent, and particularly enjoyed Sala Layan, where fresh seafood and traditional Thai dishes are prepared with a modern twist. Other offerings include the chic and relaxed Fusion Bistro, which serves up an array of global dishes or Thai street food and international snacks from the on-site food truck.

| Beyond the resort you can easily charter a speedboat or join one of the many cruises explore the captivating beauty of Phang Nga Bay. With its limestone karsts, most famously Koh Tapu, known as James Bond Island, coves as well as mangrove forests. The bay’s waters are dotted with coral reefs just waiting to be explored, so be sure to pack a picnic and snorkel kit, reef-safe sunscreen, and get ready for adventure. |
