It’s no easy task trying to find the right place to call your home-away-from-home while vacationing on Mexico’s legendary Riviera Maya: countless hotels and resorts have sprung up here over the years, each trying to be dreamier than the next, but Chablé Maroma does things a little differently. Perhaps it’s because this sublime, beachside hideaway is part of an independent, Mexican group of hotels.
Overlooking a private stretch of Playa Maroma – arguably one of the most paradisiacal beaches we have ever set eyes on – Chablé Maroma was conceived to connect the contemporarily designed, ultra-luxe, individual villas of the resort to the impossibly blue sea, white-sand shores and lush rainforest.
So it came as no surprise that the tastefully appointed decor of our villa – like the rest of the hotel – is an aesthetic interpretation that’s empathetic towards all this nature and embraces it.
Owned by a local Mayan family, the resort celebrates the history and culture of the region, but with all modern luxuries catered for. While the design, activities and escapist interiors play a huge part in the Chablé show, the spotlight is firmly fixed on the spa, with its collection of must-try Mayan rituals that all remain true to the founding family’s mission to redefine wellness in Mexico. We took part in a traditional temazcal steam ceremony based on ancient medicinal values, where the physical, mental and spiritual levels were conjured at once through contact with the elements. There were other ethereal journeys on offer, too, each connected to nature. We sought transformation through air with daily breathwork sessions, and found balance through mindfulness exercises amid the magical ceiba trees in the gardens of the spa (the ancient Mayans considered these trees to be the bridge between heaven and earth).
The same passion is directed at the hotel’s culinary offering. We thoroughly enjoyed Chablé’s Bu’ul restaurant, where the freshest, seasonal contemporary food from central and southern Mexico is served up with love.

| It would be impossible to get bored at Chablé Maroma, with all there is to see and do. Start your day with a snorkelling tour of the local reef, partake in a Mayan cooking class at lunchtime, treat yourself to a water ceremony or a temazcal session in the afternoon and finish off the day with a mixology class before dining on the beach. What more could the heart desire? |
