Washington D.C. is known as a city of legislators and while the US capital’s top hotels may lean towards the staid and select, one property aims to buck the trend – the Dupont Circle Hotel. Despite the historical, embassy-row neighbourhood it finds itself in, the Doyle Collection property aims to be a social hub for D.C.’s elite to let their hair down.
The dead giveaway of this hotel’s selling point lies in its name. Set on the famous Washington D.C. circle, we found that The Dupont Circle Hotel was the perfect base to explore what the city has to offer – boutiques, artisanal bakeries and restaurants.
To get anywhere else, the Metro (or subway – in any case the cleanest underground railway we’ve experienced in the entire country) station of the same name is just in front of the hotel. Plus you’re not far from all the nightlife and fabulous places to eat, a short stumble home from it all, in fact.
Our corner suite was just perfect – spacious with clean lines, featuring white and slate finishings, adding to the mid-century, contemporary charm of the place. The room featured a great balcony where we took in views of the city and honed our people-watching skills. At dusk, the property came to life as its The Pembrooke and Doyle bars buzzed with a hip, no-tie crowd.
We supped pre-dinner cocktails from a new drinks menu on the hotel’s terrace – it being summer the action was outdoors – albeit a little close to the road for our liking. The restaurant is a nice place for a bite to eat and we were told by locals that brunch is excellent here. The Dupont Circle Hotel has 327 rooms, although we felt as if we had the place to ourselves, most of the time.

| Washington D.C. Pride – or Capital Pride – is a fun-filled celebration of the city and country’s LGBT+ community. It culminates in a parade each June, which passes – and in some years even starting at – the hotel. So bag yourself a table on the outside terrace of The Pembrook, or ask for a suite with a beautiful terrace that faces the front of the property to watch it all happen; before taking to the streets to join the revelry yourselves. |
