In the Malaysian capital, location is everything. And you don’t get more central than the Dorsett Kuala Lumpur. As OutThere travellers, we also couldn’t help but admire the brand’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, rare considering the more conservative country it is in.
You’ll find the Dorsett Kuala Lumpur bang smack in the middle of the Kuala Lumpur CBD, in the Bukit Bintang (Star Hill) neighbourhood, part of what is known as the city’s Golden Triangle. The property’s trump card is definitely its location, a short stroll away from the palaces of entertainment that this part of “K.L.” has become known for – sparkling super malls, street-food eateries, tourist attractions and nightlife spots.
The property has been a well-known conference and business hotel for many years, but the Dorsett Kuala Lumpur has been through a significant upgrade (be sure to check out its same-branded residences too), making it one of the hotels to check into in the city.
Our chic, lofty Dorsett Suite had wrap-around windows that afforded us great views of this super-modern Malaysian city and its iconic Petronas Towers. The suite is what you’d expect of Dorsett luxury across Asia and the world, with some lovely added touches like a choice of essential oils and luxurious amenities making for a great stay.
Plus Dorsett as a brand has made an outspoken commitment to LGBT+ diversity across their properties too, which is refreshing to find in a country like Malaysia.

Foodies rejoice, if you’re at the heart of the Golden Triangle (which you are at the Dorsett Kuala Lumpur) there is only one place to go to get the food, fun and atmosphere of the Kuala Lumpur street-food scene. That is Jalan Alor, where locals and visitors mingle in a food-frenzy. If roadside dining is not your thing, many of the mega-malls on your way to and from the hotel has fantastic food-courts offering local cuisine too. |
