A stylish bolthole in the heart of the city, this grand building immediately grabbed our attention between the busy, modern shops that surround it. A converted 1931 hotel, the striking stone and brick facade once housed the Berliner Theatre, graced by such illustrious stars as Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington. This musical tradition is honoured today with a radio station broadcasting direct from its stylish bar and lounge. After a swift and easy check-in we enjoyed a delicious cocktail in their summer garden, where they also serve delicious French cuisine, the perfect way to start a night out on the town, just a short journey from Berlin’s many evening attractions. Minimalist decor throughout kept the place simple and tasteful, although serious design fans may find some attention to detail lacking. While our room was stylish and functional, it fell short of truly luxurious. But all in all, a perfect base from which to explore the city.
